“Recently, tragedy occurred on the Church of Uganda compound where we live. Two young boys – aged 4 and 7, orphans who were being raised and cared for by various people on our compound and in the church community – drowned in a recently dug, very deep, water pit in an obscure part of the compound. The water pit looked about half a metre deep, when it was actually closer to 4-5 metres deep. The boys didn’t know that, and they couldn’t swim. Their deaths have struck at the heart of the people who knew and loved them.
