On Monday 29th April 2024 Chris and Sarah Power woke up to the devastating news of a major flash flood and landslide wiping out settlements on the outskirts of Maai Mahiu, just down the hill from RVA’s (Rift Valley Academy) campus. This flooding caused massive destruction to livestock, homes and the loss of lives as reported by global news channels. Many of RVA’s Kenya staff are affected by the damage and have lost family members. This has shaken the RVA and Kijabe hospital community as over 50 people lost their lives, and the many missing are now presumed dead. Pray for the Kijabe and Maai Mahiu communities as they come to terms with the loss of lives and have to rebuild homes that were destroyed. Pray for rains to ease so that the recovery efforts can continue. Pray for the organisations trying to work together to provide aid – that it would be an effective, unified effort and pray for RVA staff and students as they rally around and support the community.
