“I started teaching again last week. This term the topics are health, disease and immunisation. One significant challenge is being heard by the students and hearing them when they respond to questions. The classroom is a large, concrete room, there are 108 students and I don’t have the loudest of voices. Add into that my foreign accent and different way of speaking and you begin to get an idea of the situation. I am trying to think of ways to reorganise the seating, complement the verbal teaching with visual aids and talk louder. Navigating this and other challenges is so much harder in a different culture when you are still learning what is appropriate and expected. Please pray for patience, creativity and perseverance with teaching at the teachers college.”
