“Every month adds to the number of people newly diagnosed with HIV. They start taking ARV’s that are provided by the General Referral Hospital in Adi. For example, three pregnant girls (aged 16, 17 and 18 years young) were found HIV positive during their first visit to the prenatal clinic last month. While the whole treatment is free and ARV’s are provided by the government, the rest of the treatment is provided for by the hospital. As is the sometimes expensive treatment of opportunistic infections, and also the rapid tests for diagnosing HIV are bought by the hospital. So it is with great joy that I can announce that funding for the treatment program, which also will open up the possibility for follow-up on people who don’t come back for their ARV’s, has been promised by ‘Metterdaad’, a program of the Evangelical Broadcast in The Netherlands that supports mission projects worldwide! The hospital personnel (and I too) are very thankful and cannot wait to be able to provide better care for people living with HIV.”
