Dawn

Sent from Portswood Church, Southampton

Dawn works to reach unreached peoples in the Indian Ocean Islands with the gospel.

Dawn’s platform ministry is working with mother-tongue language resources. Up until now this has mainly been teaching literacy and numeracy to women with little or no formal education. However, Dawn is actively involved in hands-on work in a strategy to get more biblical resources into Island languages in different media forms.

Latest Prayer News

Please pray for Dawn as she prepares to return to the UK for Home Assignment soon. Pray that handing over translation work to others will go smoothly, for Dawn to be able to say goodbye to local friends well, and for energy to make all the arrangements that need to be made before she travels. International travel can still be unpredictable, so please also pray against last-minute cancellations and other challenges that can make travel difficult.

Please continue to pray for the work of translating the Bible into the language of the Indian Ocean Islands. Pray that those working on it will be able to create a clear and faithful translation. Pray against things that might cause unnecessary delays to the work.

Kay and Elle have just finished a short internship in a local hospital on the Indian Ocean Islands ahead of starting a new medical team in a new location. Please pray that the experience of local healthcare that they have had will help the team to serve the community well and be a strong witness to them of God’s love.

Please pray for the Indian Ocean Islands. The effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on supply chains added to local tax increases has meant that the Islands have been experiencing shortages of everyday food items. The cost of living has also increased. Please pray that the Islands will receive the supplies they need.

Please pray for Dawn in her work of translating resources into the Island language. Please pray that she will be able to spend the time she needs with her fellow translators in order to finish what needs to be finished before her upcoming Home Assignment.

Indian Ocean Islands

These beautiful tropical islands are 99.9% Muslim and for security reasons we refer to this area as the ‘Indian Ocean Islands’ rather than naming individual islands. Islam is deeply rooted on these islands and to be an islander is to be a Muslim. There are a small number of believers on each island but many follow Jesus secretly for fear of rejection and persecution.
