Dawn

Sent from Portswood Church, Southampton

Dawn works to reach unreached peoples in the Indian Ocean Islands with the gospel.

Dawn’s platform ministry is working with mother-tongue language resources. Up until now this has mainly been teaching literacy and numeracy to women with little or no formal education. However, Dawn is actively involved in hands-on work in a strategy to get more biblical resources into Island languages in different media forms.

Latest Prayer News

Dawn* works to reach unreached peoples in the Indian Ocean Islands with the gospel. Pray that God will provide time in her friends’ and neighbours’ schedules to meet and speak of faith together and read the Bible as they once used to. Dawn has found that Ramadan’s disruption to people’s usual routine along with the daily demands of life, has meant that the Island believers women’s group that usually meets to study and encourage each other has lost momentum. Pray that God will give these women a thirst for His word and fellowship together and that these meetings will become a priority in future weeks.

Give thanks for the news of three new believers on the Indian Ocean Islands. Pray for endurance to continue pressing on towards Christ on their own while their main Christian mentor is and for their hearts to grow in love and devotion to Jesus.

Give thanks with Ruth for the bound books of Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts and Bible audio players that were delivered to the Indian Ocean Islands recently. One believer left his book of scripture on his office desk at work and told Ruth that everyone who has come into his office has picked it up and then asked for a copy. Pray that each would be supplied with one and that God’s word will open their eyes to the truth of the gospel and their need of Jesus.

Give thanks that workers on the Indian Ocean Island have received their first shipment of Genesis and Exodus, translated into one island’s local dialect. For the first time, they have scripture in bound books that look beautiful and look like respected holy books, in the local dialect. The translated scripture was brought over from Tanzania by a friend on a boat. Please pray for these first books to be the start for all scripture to be made into such respectable-looking books. Pray for the other copies to arrive without issue. Pray for safe distribution amongst believers and beyond, that hearts would be transformed by God’s word.

Give thanks for the upcoming weddings of two local believing couples on the Indian Ocean Islands. AIM workers on the Islands will be attending and it will be a believer’s only celebration. Pray for those getting married, that Christ would be the centre of their marriages. Pray that this day will be an opportunity for this community of believers to feel a deeper sense of unity in Christ, as they celebrate how this day points to the truth of Christ and his bride the Church being united on the last day and the joyful hope this brings

Indian Ocean Islands

These beautiful tropical islands are 99.9% Muslim and for security reasons we refer to this area as the ‘Indian Ocean Islands’ rather than naming individual islands. Islam is deeply rooted on these islands and to be an islander is to be a Muslim. There are a small number of believers on each island but many follow Jesus secretly for fear of rejection and persecution.
