Barry and Heather Mann

Sent from Winchester Baptist Church

Barry and Heather work with Growing Nations in Maphutseng, Lesotho. Heather is the CEO and Barry is AIM’s International Crisis Consultant and balances this role with his involvement with Growing Nations.

They have been serving with AIM at Growing Nations since 2012. Heather works as the project’s CEO, overseeing the finances, working on grant and project funding proposals and the overall strategic development, whilst Barry is the project’s communications specialist, involved in the development of farmer training materials, photography/video production and website development. A significant part of both of their roles at Growing Nations is the mentoring, coaching & spiritual development of the Basotho staff team.

They are also AIM’s Unit Leaders for Lesotho and are responsible for the member care of 10 mission partners working across the country. Currently, Barry and Heather are working remotely from the UK.

Barry’s role as the International Crisis Consultant ensures the organisation is aware and prepared in the management of risk, security and crisis, and serves AIM’s Sending and Receiving Regions worldwide.

The countries in which AIM works may be affected by war, political turmoil, terrorism and crime, so continual security awareness and practical preparation is essential. However, balancing the tension between the leading of the Holy Spirit, wise stewardship, and God’s invitation to risk is complex.

AIM’s mandate is to fulfil the Great Commission, and as our missionaries continue in our founders’ footsteps many of the risks and challenges involved in reaching the unreached remain the same now as they were then. Christian workers build resilience into gospel ministry through good security practices that ensure both the voice and presence of the gospel will continue to advance in difficult places.

Barry is involved in advising regions, teams, missionaries and AIM’s International Office in many aspects of risk management and security. He is also involved in new missionaries’ training and orientation in security protocols, contingency plans and safety before they arrive on the mission field.

Barry and Heather work with Growing Nations in Maphutseng, Lesotho. Heather is the CEO and Barry is AIM’s International Crisis Consultant and balances this role with his involvement with Growing Nations.   Barry and Heather are longing to be reunited with the Growing Nations team. Pray that the Lord will provide a way for them to visit Lesotho at last, after multiple personal factors have resulted in two cancelled trips. Pray with them for God to send rain on Lesotho, as the consistent dry and hot weather has resulted in a failed maize harvest. This has a significant impact on farmers and the local community where 24% of people already rely on food aid. Pray for sufficient rains to water the remaining crops and fill the water tanks to provide safe drinking water.

Barry and Heather work remotely from the UK with Growing Nations in Maphutseng, Lesotho. Heather is the CEO and Barry is AIM’s International Crisis Consultant. Give thanks for the success of Growing Nations’ Open Day, which saw over 230 people visiting, from farmers to government dignitaries. Growing Nations teaches farmers, families, communities & young people in Lesotho & beyond how to ‘Farm God’s Way’ using Conservation Agriculture (CA) methods. Pray that those who attended would continue to see God’s love in his creation and harvest provision and would seek to support the gospel and agricultural work of Growing Nations.

Give thanks with Barry and Heather Mann, as they were blessed by in-person time with colleagues old and new, at AIM’s Southern Region leadership meetings after four years of not being able to attend. Pray they would continue to be encouraged as they look to the new year in Barry’s new role as AIM Crisis Consultant and as Heather continues working with the Growing Nations Team.

Today, Barry Mann begins serving as AIM’s International Crisis Consultant. AIM’s workers can often be in challenging environments, and as Crisis Consultant Barry will oversee our policies, procedures and training that support those working in tough situations. Please pray for Barry as Carrie Pither hands over this role to him. Pray that God will give him all he needs to serve well in this new role.

Thank you for praying for Growing Nations after a devastating hailstorm destroyed a lot of crops in January. Praise God that, this harvest, the demonstration farm produced yields of 6-10 tons per hectare; far more than Lesotho’s average maize yield of 0.5-0.75 tons per hectare! However, the UN predicts that 24% of Lesotho’s population will face acute food shortages between September 2022 and March next year. Please pray for Church projects in Lesotho like Growing Nations that help people increase their food security while inviting them to know Jesus, who satisfies our eternal hunger.
