Daily prayers
O of Kenya
Pray for the 66,000 O of Kenya who are semi-nomadic herders living in the East African bush, in dome-shaped structures which can be dismantled to move with their herds. A government plan to make a little village airstrip into a large airport would have negative consequences for the Africa Inland Church station. Pray in Jesus’ name against all the schemes of the devil, who is trying to stop God’s kingdom advancing there. Recently, workers became aware that one of the new believers had been lying to them. The Lord orchestrated the perfect private meeting, and he was called to repent. He responded with conviction and humility, prayed to confess his sin, and chose to get back on the right path. Pray the new believers will be genuine, and sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s voice.
AIM Mission
Pray that in dependence on the grace and power of the Lord, in partnership with African churches, and with priority for unreached people groups, churches around the world would be mobilised for missions to Africans.
Dawn
Dawn* works to bring the gospel to unreached peoples in the Indian Ocean Islands. Give thanks for the Lord sustaining her through some busy weeks. Pray for the local believers to recover momentum in meeting regularly and that they will continue to grow together. Praise the Lord that despite shortages he continues to provide fuel when needed. Please pray for protection over people and equipment in the Bible translation project. * Name changed for security reasons
Frank and Josie
Frank and Josie* serve with Borderless, mentoring young men and helping at an English conversation class and a befriending programme. In their previous ministry, they’d reached a point where they still had lots to learn but also knew what they were doing. They now feel like they’re at the beginning of a new journey, and don’t know what they are doing! They consult with others, but each ministry works slightly differently. They can put a huge amount of energy into thinking of creative ways to do things and then they fail and it can be discouraging. There’s no manual for how to do this work! Pray they will remember God isn’t asking them to do this in their strength, but in His. Ask that he will help them to surrender their plans, ideas and hopes to him, acknowledging that they don’t know what they are doing but he does! Please ask that during this time of not knowing, they would pray, abide and listen carefully to his directions. There should be an English Conversation Club starting at Josie’s school about now. * Name changed for security reasons
Hannah Jackson
Hannah Jackson is the Child Safety Officer for AIM. This month she has more visitors coming to stay and is going to her first RVA board meeting. (Rift Valley Academy is an AIM boarding school near Nairobi.) She is also attending a conference for workers to North Africa. Due to the nature of their work locations, it can be harder to get to know these members, so pray she can build relationships and make useful contacts. At this conference Hannah will help the TCK (also called cross culture children) coordinator with some workshops; pray that they can support and equip families who are working in hard places, and that children can stay safe and thrive.
Ruth
Ruth* works on an Indian Ocean Island, seeking to share the gospel with people who have never had it explained to them. In her assignment location, she often sings at home on her own. Currently on home assignment in the UK, she has really enjoyed singing with so many people and learning some new songs. Pray that this time of refreshment would prepare her for her next season of service. * Name changed for security reasons
Amelia
Amelia* serves in West Africa, sharing the gospel with those in a region that is very opposed to the message of Jesus Christ. Marriage and divorce are topics that come up repeatedly: her friend was married at 12 and had her daughter at 13, while her friend’s older sister has been married and divorced five times, with children from three different fathers. While the former is now much less common – and her youngest sister has made it all the way to university without getting married, the latter is not seen as unusual. Maybe five times is at the upper end, but it’s not something that would necessarily cause surprise. On the other hand, to be a never married woman in her mid-40s, that is a strange thing! And while Amelia’s language still limits the depth of conversation, it’s an easy jumping off point into things of faith, and a number of things she has said are repeated by her friends to new people when she meets them. Pray that the strangeness of what they hear would linger and prompt a desire for more and better than what they currently know. * Name changed for security reasons
Nyang’atom of South Sudan
Pray for the 30,000 Nyang’atom of South Sudan whose very beautiful but rugged and inaccessible land straddles the border of Ethiopia and South Sudan. The church planters ask for prayers that God will enrich their lands and bring rain, so that in their absence their wives, children, and relatives can take care of the animals and farms, and store produce for the next season. Pray for peace and unity as their area borders Ethiopia and Boma – areas that are currently experiencing war, fighting, and robberies. Pray the gospel will be preached, and people will repent and believe despite the challenges.
Mission
AIM serves the church of Jesus Christ in its responsibility to make disciples of the peoples of Africa as stated in Matthew 28:18-20: “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Pray that we would be faithful and fruitful in serving and equipping the church to accomplish the Great Commission amongst Africans.
