Daily prayers
Saskia has been serving at Rift Valley Academy in Kenya since last August but has decided not to stay for another year. Please pray for her as she is seeking the Lord’s guidance for where he wants her to serve next, whether that be another placement in Africa or back home in the Netherlands.
Zac is doing Youth Sports Ministry in Tanzania for a year, having started in January. Praise God that his language learning is going well, and he’s settled into his new house. He’s also very grateful that while he hasn’t been able to eat fruit in the UK due to allergies, he’s been ‘eating fruit galore’ with no side effects! Please pray for the relationships Zac has built with local people to continue to grow and develop, and that opportunities to share the gospel would consequently open up. There is also an opportunity to start organising some sporting events with his teammate, Matthew, so ask the Lord to provide the means and people to attend.
Cees and Mirjam serve in Kotido, Uganda, to engage the Karimojong people for Christ. In January, they launched a Theological Education by Extension program, through which students in Kotido can earn an accredited certificate by studying books on their own and meeting weekly with a tutor. They are also busy preparing a program called “Scripture Engagement”, promoting listening to and interacting with the Bible in small groups. They have received 50 audio Bibles and plan to start Bible listening groups in communities where no one can read and where there are no Bibles. Please pray that as people get access to the Word of God, they will find life in Christ.
Dawn works to bring the gospel to unreached peoples in the Indian Ocean Islands. Praise God for progress in the Bible translation project, and for the local believers who continue to meet together once a week. Please ask the Lord to continue to work through conversations with friends and neighbours, and to give wisdom as she walks alongside the local church. Please pray for team health and energy levels, and that their vehicles will work well so that their ministries can continue.
Ruth works on an Indian Ocean Island, seeking to share the gospel with people who have never had it explained to them. Give thanks for the Lord reminding Ruth of his promises and character and strengthening her during difficult times. During Ramadan, many local people asked Ruth if she was fasting. This brought lots of opportunities to share that she doesn’t need to earn her way into heaven, as Jesus has done it all for her. One evening, her neighbour’s daughter asked her, “So you are not fasting because you love Jesus?” Ruth replied, “YES! I am not fasting because I love him”. She went on to explain what Jesus did for us on the cross. Praise God that her neighbour’s daughter is clearly watching and taking it all in. Please pray that God may open her heart to love Jesus for herself.
Pray for the 930,000 Antandroy who live in the arid extreme south of Madagascar. Bible translation is progressing, with the four Gospels, Acts and several epistles available in print and audio formats. There is a team among them working in partnership with local churches, and one of the pastors is broadcasting the Jesus film. Ask the Lord to bring a breakthrough of the Gospel and a revival among the Antandroy.
Hannah is the Child Safety Officer for AIM and recently attended a conference and training course in Malaysia about developing a Child Safety programme. Praise God for this opportunity to think about how to develop policy and procedures in this area, and for the reminder that God cares even more about the safety of our children than we do and equips us to share in his mission. Hannah also teaches at a language school in Nairobi, and the English conversation club recently had great discussions on ‘Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.’ (John 15:13) and ‘God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.’ (Romans 5:8). Pray for her students as they ponder these truths. Over Easter, Hannah will begin as leader of a younger children’s Sunday school group. Ask the Lord to richly bless these relationships with the children, and to encourage her heart as she shares the good news.
