Daily prayers

In her last update, Margot shared that they will no longer be moving to serve in Chad as previously planned. It’s been a long time since they have been able to catch up with Margot’s sending church and supporters in the UK and over a year since they have been in the US with her husband, Fernando’s, sending church and family. After some time in the UK, they will be heading to the US on the 5th of July, before ending the trip with an AIM Conference in Atlanta. Since the decision to step back from ministry in Chad, they have many questions about their future. Margot and Fernando have been having conversations with their sending churches and AIM to discuss what potential options there are moving forward. Please pray that God will give them wisdom and clarity.

In partnership with the local church, Sandrine shares the love of Jesus with North African immigrants in Montréal, Canada. At the end of April, they launched a “Bridges” course with a dozen Christians from three local churches, meeting every week for seven weeks. This course helped in better understanding Islam, developing friendships with Muslims, and learning how to build bridges to the gospel. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will give those that took the course courage to love Muslims and share the gospel with them. Sandrine has also started another course, after multiple people approached her wanting to explore the foundations of the Christian faith. It is called ‘Jesus according to Jesus’ : a journey of discovering the person and work of Jesus in the Gospel of Mark. Ask that the Lord may use this course to bring spiritual sight!

Praise the Lord for reports of multiple baptisms last month across the Indian Ocean Islands! Unfortunately, pictures of these professions of faith were posted on social media, so those in the pictures are almost assuredly to face stiff opposition from their community.  Please pray for the Lord’s hand of protection to be over them, that He will grant these new believers courage, and that He will use this for good to draw many to Himself.

Pray for the 89,000 Gabbra that live in the Chalbi desert in Kenya, close to the border with Ethiopia. Some of the workers recently completed a course which is designed to help participants carefully examine how Scripture aligns with—or challenges—different cultural practices, and to consider how to faithfully move forward in light of God’s Word. Please pray for wisdom and clarity as the team prepares to take this material and share it with local leaders. Ask that these discussions would be guided by the Holy Spirit, and that they would lead to deep understanding of the gospel and healthy, rooted discipleship. Pray especially that many would come to see that following Jesus is not the rejection of their identity, but the transformation of it—that someone can be a faithful Christian while still fully belonging within Gabbra culture. Ask that God would raise up strong local leaders who rightly handle His Word and faithfully shepherd new believers in truth, grace, and love.

In all the busyness and pressures of a rapidly changing world, pray that AIM will be enabled to keep equipping, mobilising, and catalysing African churches, church leaders, cross-cultural missionaries, local ministers and disciple-makers as a priority.

Ben and Christelle serve in Mayotte, making disciples among the unreached people living there. Please pray for them as they will record a new song and a video clip. Pray for wisdom as they plan to be part of the activities for the end of the school year; may they be where God wants them to be and share with the local people as effective witnesses among them.

David and Patricia are based in Arusha, Tanzania and are partnering with different churches and Christian organisations to see Christian radio stations set up across Tanzania. Please pray for wisdom and the guidance of the Holy Spirit in their daily interactions. Every day, they come across people they want to share the gospel with, and often Patricia can feel rather weak and ineffective, and that she doesn’t have the right words. Ask that she will hold fast to the truth that God works even in our weakness. Patricia is really enjoying teaching at the Tanzanian school. There’s a big change coming to the team, as the current leaders will be leaving the country in July. Please pray for this transition as they have been like family, and it will be hard to continue the work without them.

John and Zoe serve at Rift Valley Academy (RVA), AIM’s boarding school in Kijabe, Kenya, which educates and disciples the children of missionaries. After three years at the school, their older daughter is graduating and moving back to the UK for university. They will be staying in the dorm with a new cohort of 7th-grade girls who will be with them for two years. Zoe will continue helping in kindergarten every morning, and John will be taking a sideways step out of teaching and into a pastoral role as the Hub Co-ordinator. The Hub is a pastoral team including representatives from academics, student life, student health, counselling, spiritual life and senior leadership. John’s role will be to receive referrals and direct them to the relevant department, and to liaise with parents about the co-ordination of care, interventions and support any student might need. He will continue to coach sport every day, and be on the Preaching, Worship, Child Safety Interviewing, UK Further Education, and African Field Studies teams too. Please pray for a positive finish to their last term with their current group of dorm girls. Ask that the Lord may grant them a precious last couple of months as a family of four living together.

Chris and Sarah serve in Germany, where Chris is the HR Manager at Black Forest Academy (BFA). There are 25 new staff arriving at BFA at the end of July. Pray for them as they raise support and prepare for the move. Pray for Chris as he will be involved in their orientation and staff training days. Praise God that Chris and Sarah are feeling more settled in their church and have been able to get to know the pastors and others better recently. They have also started hosting a home group for those living on their side of the border and are praying that more people would join the group and that they can support and encourage each other well. They will be coming to the UK for a month over the summer. Please pray for them as they take a break, catch up with family, and visit a couple of churches and supporters.
