Daily prayers
Ruth serves as AIM Care Manager at Tumaini Counselling Centre in Nairobi. Praise God for the recent additions of Laura and Nate, who are their new clinical interns. These are the first interns Tumaini has accepted in a long time, and it is a joy to have them as part of the team. From the 19th –23rd of October, the team will be running another Marriage Retreat, which involves Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. There are eight couples signed up, and four clinicians from the US are coming to support them. Please pray that those attending would be given clarity, grace and understanding, and that these marriages would be strengthened and bring glory to God. Ask that the Lord would grant wisdom, strength and good rhythms of rest to Ruth and the team, so that they can remain rooted in Christ amid a very full schedule.
Holly has just begun a new assignment in North Africa, working in a hospital which is owned and overseen by a branch of the national church, and surrounded by many unreached people. A couple of weeks ago Holly was asked to speak with the medical (as opposed to surgical) residents about some of her experiences having worked overseas. It was a rich time of talking with a handful of others. Whilst it was fun to share pictures of various places she has worked, it was really precious to share something of the intentionality of using gifts well in the service of the Lord and others, and it led to some great discussion about guidance. This discussion prompted Holly to reflect on the years of blessed and faithful provision that she has experienced. This month marks 15 years of her long-term service in Africa. She looks back with immense gratitude. Praise God that while there have been many challenges over these years, Holly has experienced the riches to be found in relationships, service and intimacy with the Lord.
Hannah is the Headteacher at Wellspring School in Chad, which provides education for the children of mission partners. She is excited to have some more short-termers from different African sending countries coming to visit the school, and trusts that God will continue to mobilise workers for the field in His timing and plans. Several of their American mission partners are still hoping to return. Please pray for them and their children in this waiting season and ask that they would have discernment in the now-and-not-yet of decision-making. Over this year, Hannah has been sensing the Lord directing her to move on from Chad and her role at Wellspring. She feels peaceful, but also sad, and it has been painful to share the news with the families there, as they have been through a lot together. Hannah is due to go on Home Assignment in July 2027, and, during that time, will seek the Lord’s will for what is next; maybe continuing in mission work, or perhaps something else. Please pray for reliance on God’s daily grace in all these changes and challenges. Ask that more teachers will be provided for the 2027-2028 school year, and beyond.
Please pray for the 250,000 Ndengereko who live on the southern coast of Tanzania. For those who face rejection in the community for following Christ, please ask that they would experience God powerfully at work in their lives and grow in courage and perseverance. Pray that God would raise up bold Christian witnesses among the Ndengereko so that many would know His love for them and that He is the true Way.
Kay leads a medical team on the Indian Ocean Islands. A local believer, Mama Fiona, had stopped allowing the team to meet in her house for a Bible study, and recently she shared more about why this was. Having told her parents about her desire to follow Jesus, her father insisted that they would cut her off completely if she turned from Islam. Mama Fiona loves her family dearly and says she can’t lose them, and so has agreed to go back to praying their way and reading the Quran daily. She is torn because she loves Jesus, but also her family. It’s easy to say that Jesus is worth the cost, but Kay is very aware that she has not experienced the threat of family rejection and appreciates how difficult it is. Please pray for Mama Fiona and for her father, that his heart might be opened to the truth. Ask that all the local believers there would continue to shine brightly and be a light in the dark places.
Simon seeks to build relationships with African diaspora in the UK as part of the Borderless team. Seven years ago, one of the first churches Simon visited after starting in Diaspora ministry was a small church on the edge of a city estate in the East Midlands. The church had no pastor, a small membership and few of the local community had been into the church building. But praise God that the believers there felt the Lord was leading them to reach out to their neighbours. This year they partnered with Borderless to host the sixth annual Community Outreach Week, which concluded with 100 people from the local community coming into the church building for a picnic and fun day. It is amazing to see how God is working through this small but committed congregation. Please pray that God will continue to water seeds planted through this ministry and stir up other local churches to step out in faith.
Ruth works on an Indian Ocean Island, seeking to share the gospel with people who have never had it explained to them. On the third of September, Ruth celebrated the anniversary of when she first went to Africa seven years ago. Each year she spends the day enjoying East African treats and reflecting on how the Lord has continued to help her. She initially served on the Kenyan coast, but unfortunately, due to security issues, she had to leave after only a few months. There have been no workers there for the past two years, but one of her old teammates, P, has just returned and is hoping others will join her so that she can lead a new team. Praise God for this encouragement, and the opportunity that Ruth had to visit recently. Some contacts that Ruth made in the past are still there, and P is going to try to follow up with these. Please pray that the seeds sown by Ruth will be watered by P, so that they will have the joy of seeing the church grow in this region.
Barry and Heather work with Growing Nations, an organisation based in Maphutseng, Lesotho, which shares God’s love through a focus on agricultural knowledge and training. At present, they are celebrating Growing Nations winning “His Majesty’s Honour Award” in recognition of its outstanding contribution to agriculture at the Annual Farmers Awards in Lesotho. One of their former students was also given the “Conservation Agricultural Champion” award. They thank God for the recognition that comes with these awards and the opportunity it gives them to share more about their ministry. Please do intercede for the ongoing work of Growing Nations, as they are currently extremely short of funds and are trusting the Lord’s guidance and provision for the future of the ministry.
