Daily prayers

Pray that all in AIM would be Christ-centred: compelled by Christ’s love (2 Cor 5:14) to love, pray for, and proclaim the gospel to Africa’s unreached peoples. Pray that our sufficiency, hope, and ministry would flow from our relationship with Christ. Pray that we would serve by His grace and strength and submit to His will.

Bruce and Jan seek to build relationships with African diaspora in the UK as part of the Borderless team. In his role as a Bible translation consultant, Bruce is soon to be checking the book of Romans for the African translation team that he supports. This long and theologically rich letter is one of the most challenging portions of Scripture to translate well; please pray for wisdom and insight as he goes through it verse by verse over the coming months. He has also just started a small research project exploring ways in which UK churches could be more welcoming towards those who speak English as their second, third or fourth language. His supervisor is an African theologian who has extensive experience in this area, so that is a real blessing. Jan was really encouraged by the freedom with which she was able to share about the true meaning of Easter in recent English conversation classes. In one class, a student simply said, ‘We don’t know what Easter is all about. Please tell us.’ Lesson by lesson, home visit by home visit, the women’s understanding is growing and barriers to faith are slowly being removed. Please pray that the Lord would continue to supply Jan with patience and perseverance as she journeys alongside these women at the Holy Spirit’s pace.

Rebecca teaches chemistry and broader science at Rift Valley Academy (RVA), Kenya. Throughout this term she has been continually reminded to choose joy in every situation, having to often remind herself of the bigger picture and mission of the school as she faced a very demanding term with many ups and downs. Praise God that she is getting to know her church family better and finding new ways to serve in the worship team; after about a 15-year break, she dusted off the cobwebs and brought her flute back into action! While she rejoices at the relationships God has brought her, as time passes, she is missing seeing her nephews grow up and having people her age and stage around her. Please pray that she will continue to choose joy and that she will find a deeper sense of friendships and family over this next term.

Kay leads a medical team on the Indian Ocean Islands. With the diabetes clinic seeing an influx of new patients, her Thursday clinics are a lot busier than they used to be, and she misses getting time to talk with each patient. The Islands have seen a huge outbreak of probable Chikungunya; most of the team have had it and nearly all have continued to deal with lingering joint pain since. Chikungunya can cause long lasting joint pain and inflammation in up to 50% of cases. There have also been several health crises on the other Island teams. Please pray for restoration and healing so that they can continue their work.

Hannah seeks to build relationships with African diaspora in the UK as part of the Borderless team. Praise God that following her prayer to befriend more Sudanese women, he has answered! Recently, Hannah was invited to celebrate Eid with a new friend, and along with her son Micah, she joined eight ladies to eat food that was very similar to what Hannah was used to, when she previously lived in Chad. When she got home her husband Mark said that Micah smelled of Chad – due to the incense and perfumes the ladies used! It was a complete joy for her to be in such a familiar environment again. This friend who hosted her, M, came along to an Easter event at their church and is keen to go to a monthly craft café at church as well. In fact, she invited Hannah to go with her! Please pray that her eyes would be opened and Hannah would share confidently and lovingly the sure hope that we have.

One of our affiliates is currently in North Africa this week, to help with the transition as her colleague leaves to have a baby. She has taken her church intern, ‘A’, for the first half of the trip for some envisioning and for her to help in the kindergarten for a couple of days. Please pray that A will have a good time and experience all that God wants for her as she considers her near future. Landing on the tarmac just before them, God-willing, will be a new colleague, “Mrs L”. She has bought a one-way ticket to come and help at the school in a time of need! Please pray for her as she adjusts to life at the school, and that they would work well as a team.

Pray for the 750,000 Bara people who live in the grasslands of south-central Madagascar. In the villages, the Gospel is being shared through testimonies and many people are hearing the Good News for the first time, while others are encountering it again. Ask that the Holy Spirit would deeply touch their hearts and give them understanding of the truth. Ask that many among the Bara people would have a living encounter with Christ and believe in Him for salvation.

Pray for Christ-centred Churches among all African Peoples.

Edward and Elle serve in a closed country where there are very few Christians. Having recently married, they are now preparing to go back to Africa. Praise God that Elle’s UK spouse visa application was successful, and that she has just begun her three-month English teaching course, which will give her a useful qualification for when they return. Please pray for her to work and learn well, grow in confidence, and depend on God. Edward is enjoying his online maths teaching job. Please pray that his employer would recognise his efforts and abilities and he will be assigned more classes. On 2nd May, they are speaking at an AIM meeting in Scotland. Please pray for God’s help as they share, and that the meeting will be an encouragement for those who attend.
