Daily prayers
David and Patricia are based in Arusha, Tanzania and are partnering with different churches and Christian organisations to see Christian radio stations set up across Tanzania. It is now just over ten years since they left for Kenya as a family. Now based in Tanzania, they look back on those 10 years with grateful hearts. Sent out by 2 churches in Switzerland, they work on the ground among the local churches. May God use this radio work for His glory, so that people may hear the good news and find peace with God.
Hannah is the Headteacher at Wellspring School in Chad. Pray for the ongoing impacts of the visa situation, including preparing for student absences, families currently out of the country deciding what to do if things don’t change by January, and for their teacher, Laura, to be able to come and cover for Heidi in January.
Ann works among an unreached people group in northern Chad. Pray for her as she balances the work of team leader, doctor, church member, neighbour, etc. Ask God to give her wisdom in how to use her time. Pray for God to cause the seeds that have been planted to bear fruit for His glory.
Pray for the 16-20 million Somalis of East Africa and in the Diaspora. The Somali people live in East Africa, but many can now be found in the UK, Europe, Canada and the US. One worker reports: What a joy it was to have two children of a Muslim Background Believer (MBB) being dedicated with other children on Sunday. For obvious reasons, the dedication of the two was performed in private. Pray that the children will grow to know and love Jesus as Lord and Saviour. May they mature to serve Jesus all their lives.
Pray that all in AIM would be Christ-centred: compelled by Christ’s love (2 Cor 5:14) to love, pray for, and proclaim the Gospel to Africa’s unreached peoples. Pray that our sufficiency, hope, and ministry would flow from our relationship with Christ. Ask the Lord that we would serve by His grace and strength and submit to His will.
Dawn* works to bring the gospel to unreached peoples in the Indian Ocean Islands. Overall, she has been encouraged by the local island church family meeting much more consistently than before. Pray for wisdom for the team in how much to lead, model and participate. Ask that their motivation will truly be a desire to learn together, and a growing hunger for the Word. Dawn has been particularly encouraged by the deepening relationship with Rachel’s* teenage daughter. She has been traumatised in the past and used to hide away, but is now happy to chat with Dawn as they do embroidery together. Dawn is also encouraged by language lessons with a Malagasy partner as she grows more confident in understanding and using the local language. *Names changed for security reasons
Dave and Cristyn Wakefield serve at Moffat Bible College in Kijabe, Kenya. Please pray for energy for everyone as the term draws to a close. Cristyn is leading the local women’s bible study through a 7-study series in Esther. She recently led a 4-week study in Ruth, which the group loved and wants to continue with another book of the bible! Pray that some of the local members would be willing also to lead, and wisdom for Cristyn in how to encourage and train them up. Pray too for wisdom in standing firm in the face of the prosperity gospel. They are working through how to better equip the students and pastors against the prosperity gospel at the moment, and make the stance of the college clear for all. They are grateful for this recent statement from African church leaders, which brings clarity http://africastatement.org/.
Simon and Miriam Desborough are serving in Antananarivo, Madagascar, encouraging and equipping the Malagasy church for mission, and reaching out to vulnerable women. Please pray for the aftermath of the protests in Madagascar and for the restoration of businesses which had their sales plummet, stock stolen, and shop fronts destroyed. The offices of the Bible Society of Madagascar were ransacked, with many Bibles and Christian books burned. Pray that the Bible Society would be able to quickly resume their activities – His words will never pass away. Pray too for the repentance of the looters and opportunists who engaged in plundering cities for their selfish gain.
Jürgen and Katja Hofmann serve in Madagascar, reaching out to the Tanala people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Praise God that boxes of the translations of the Gospel of Luke, the Book of Acts and the story collection will be sent to Vohipeno, Ikongo and Irondro. Pray for the ongoing translation of the Book of Genesis. It is a lot of work because the language used in Genesis is very different from that used in the New Testament books. Chapters 1 to 6 have been completed, so only 44 chapters to go – please pray for strength and wisdom for the team working on this.
