Daily prayers
Elle is part of a medical ministry team on the Indian Ocean Islands and has recently had a short-termer, ‘Z’, arrive to join her team for the next 6 months. Please pray for Elle as she seeks to introduce Z to the culture, language and organisation. Ask that Z wouldn’t be overwhelmed, but that Elle would be able to encourage and reassure her. The word for ‘visitor’ there is the same as ‘stranger’ or ‘foreigner’. It is used in different ways depending on the context, but Elle longs for Z to feel at home, to make good friends and not consider herself, or be considered, a stranger for long. Ask the Lord to strengthen those who are far from home for his sake, that they might be rooted in Him and find refuge in the midst of change.
Pray for the 631,000 Zigua who live on the North-East coast of Tanzania. Praise God for the gospel outreach that has been done among them, and that they have the New Testament in their language. Pray that the Zigua would come to know the hope and joy to be found in Jesus and that many would come into a relationship with him. Ask the Lord that in time an indigenous church would be planted, with leaders from the Zigua.
Barry and Heather work with Growing Nations in Maphutseng, Lesotho. Praise God that Growing Nations’ work was broadcast on national television and radio last month! Please pray for timely, ‘soft’ rain, which is greatly needed as the crops are now showing some signs of stress, and that they will recover well ahead of the Annual Field Day next month; this provides Growing Nations with an opportunity to showcase its work at a national level. Ask the Lord to work in and through Farming Quest, which is a two-week intensive course starting tomorrow (28 Feb – 13 Mar), designed specifically for missionaries, pastors and church workers, which equips them for agricultural mission and Farming God’s Way.
Zac has recently moved to Tanzania to do Youth Sports Ministry. Praise God that he has already had Muslim members of the club ask him to pray in Jesus’ name for them. Please pray that the Lord will work in the lives of these young men here who are so clearly open to hearing about Jesus. Amidst these highs, Zac has also caught glimpses of the ongoing spiritual warfare present. Lift him and the team up regarding this battle, particularly with Ramadan starting, and ask for the Lord’s help in adjusting to this new culture and working on his language learning so that more doors will open for him to share the good news.
Mix and Katie serve at Rift Valley Academy (RVA), which is AIM’s boarding school founded to support missionaries across Africa. They recently supported a fellow missionary who was wrestling with a recent tragedy in his work, which could have been avoided. Many missionaries give up comfort, status, convenience, safety, and much more to go to the broken places of the world and serve, and those who support them give up much as well. Pray for Mix and Katie as they walk alongside those experiencing the brokenness of this world and seek to reflect the heart of God. Ask that the Lord would use every difficulty faced to forge them into a force for good.
John and Zoe serve at Rift Valley Academy (RVA), AIM’s boarding school, which educates and disciples the children of missionaries in Kijabe, Kenya. Praise God that dorm parenting continues to go well, even with the ups and downs that come with 14-year-old girls! They are encouraged that one or two who were quiet at the beginning are feeling more settled and are coming out of their shells more. Please pray for them as they seek to understand the cultural differences in communication, trust, truth and honour, and that the Lord will enable them to build relationships.
Lift up the whole Sahel region in West Africa and pray for those who have had to come out of one country, that they would lament honestly before the Lord and trust His sovereign hand in all things. Ask the Lord to send workers into this harvest field and to equip his church to witness to the Prince of Peace.
Pray for the 600,000 Zaramo of Tanzania living on the coastal plains and low hills on the southern coast of Tanzania, that the few believers among them will be strong and courageous as they experience persecution in the community. Ask the Lord to stir Tanzanian churches to reach out to their Zaramo neighbours so that they will “with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory and be transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:18.
