Short Term – Diaspora Apprenticeship in Rome

Do you want to train in cross-cultural mission in Europe?

Background

We are looking to build teams of disciple makers across Europe – both expats and Europeans. We are desiring compassionate people who are passionate about disciple-making, casting vision, and partnering with national believers to grow disciple-making movements.

Vision and Strategy

The Apprenticeship in Mission at the HUB (AMH) is a training program designed to serve as a bridge between theological training and deployment to the field for those pursuing a call to long-term, cross-cultural work. AMH is an environment of continued learning, spiritual gift discovery and development, hands-on ministry, and mentoring under the tutelage of experienced cross-cultural practitioners.

Engaging in mission and spiritual formation as part of the HUB community will allow the apprentice to continue to grow spiritually while, at the same time, gain practical experience in mission work in a very multi-cultural context.

Ministry and type of work

The apprentice will be expected to assume ministry responsibilities, in agreement with the team and his/her mentor, by the beginning of the fourth month. The first three months will serve as a focused time on training and getting acclimated to life and ministry in the city of Rome. The apprentice will be expected to enter into a venue of ministry and take it in hand for the remaining two-thirds of the apprenticeship.

The apprenticeship itself is nine months. It’s our hope that this would be an introduction to longer term ministry in either Rome continuing on with ministry at the HUB or at another location in Europe.

Qualifications and experience

One year of theological training is recommended.

What are the personal (not academic) characteristics required?

  • Willingness to focus on Christ through engaging in spiritual disciplines
  • Willingness to implement trainings or methods that you don’t understand, seem strange to you, or push you outside your comfort zone
  • Willingness to maintain a positive and joyful spirit in all acts of service
  • Willingness to be sweetly broken by the recognition of your sinfulness, to
experience the great joy of God’s grace given to you through the cross of Christ, and to let this humility pervades your interactions with other interns and the team
  • Willingness to endure difficult situations without giving up

Other information

The next apprenticeship will run from 19th September 2022-9th June 2023.

FAQS

Yes, you must be a born-again Christian with an active and growing relationship with Jesus Christ and agree with AIM's statement of faith. AIM is an evangelical Christian mission agency. We work in partnership with the African church to reach Africa's unreached peoples with the good news of Jesus Christ, and to develop leaders for the fast-growing church.

Yes. The Bible makes it clear that the church sends missionaries (e.g. Acts 13) and has an ongoing pastoral responsibility for them. As much as AIM is a key partner in the process and facilitates ministry in Africa, we will not accept into membership anyone who does not have a positive recommendation and support from their church. AIM will discuss your application with your church leaders – after all they know you better than we do – as together we seek to discern that this is God’s calling for you.

The easiest way is to fill out the contact us form on our website. Once we receive that form, we’ll be in touch to arrange a time to discuss together how the Lord is leading you.

Luke Herrin

In Acts 18:10, the Lord told Paul that he should keep speaking clearly because he had many people in Corinth. The Lord has many people in your city. We just need to find them. And the best way to do that is just to talk to them.
