Pray for global mission

How should we pray for ourselves and others? Every day our staff, and the pastors and missionaries who join us, hear an opening prayer shaped by Luke 10:2. ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’ We shape our prayers around this verse, to help us remain focused on the task we have been called to. Praying through scripture helps us to be shaped by Godโ€™s heart, to have our eyes opened to his work in the world and to be challenged to see how God has placed us to work out his purposes.

We know that when we pray God is not only moving our hearts wherever we are, but he is also directing peopleโ€™s lives, shaping cultures, opening doors and equipping those he is calling. God’s sovereignty, power and might give us confidence to pray prayers that go beyond our understanding of the means to achieve them, or the cost to individuals and churches to see him fulfil them. Our prayers are to see God raise up people ready to cross-cultures and share the good news. So, let us pray through some of Scripture together to help us broaden our prayers, and move from our day-to-day concerns, to praying for God to reach our communities, churches and every nation.

Alan and Pauline Jordanย serve with the Africa Inland Church in Nanyuki, northern Kenya. The evening sessions and the Saturday teaching sessions of the Bible Training Course for Pastors/Leaders (BTCP/L) programme are reaching their climax, studying the final book, concerning Mission, Evangelism and Discipleship. The only problem is the students are all concerned about what to do next with the time they commit each week studying the course! They have suggested studying a diploma, or seminars on various topics. They just love the fellowship, teaching and fun they have together. Pray for wisdom for Alan as it leaves him in a quandary as to what the Lord is leading him to do next. There are a few students who will need to do catch up classes during July before the graduation. Pray for the first Nanyuki Graduation on Saturday 2nd August when many friends, family and dignitaries will join the celebrations.

Chris and Sarah Powerย are about to move from Rift Valley Academy in Kenya to Black Forest Academy (BFA) in Germany, another school staffed by missionaries, which provides good quality, affordable education for mission families serving throughout North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Pray that they will be able to make the most of their last two months at RVA – for those they mentor, disciple, teach, and socialise with. Ask the Lord to provide someone to take over Chrisโ€™s role as RVAโ€™s Personnel Director. Pray that Chris’s visa appointment at the German Embassy tomorrow (17th June) would go well and that their visas will be processed quickly in time to travel. Pray for their children as they also go through this big transition, leaving (almost) all of their friends and the place that has been home for significant, formative years. There is much grief involved!

Pray for the less than 12,000ย Jiye of South Sudanย who live in the arid, flat lowlands of the South East corner of South Sudan. They are agri-pastoralists, growing sorghum and raising cattle, sheep, and goats. Weโ€™re encouraged to report that the Oral Bible Translation project is progressing well. Pray for Amoni and his team as they diligently work to make Godโ€™s Word accessible in the local heart language.
