Pray for global mission

How should we pray for ourselves and others? Every day our staff, and the pastors and missionaries who join us, hear an opening prayer shaped by Luke 10:2. ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’ We shape our prayers around this verse, to help us remain focused on the task we have been called to. Praying through scripture helps us to be shaped by Godโ€™s heart, to have our eyes opened to his work in the world and to be challenged to see how God has placed us to work out his purposes.

We know that when we pray God is not only moving our hearts wherever we are, but he is also directing peopleโ€™s lives, shaping cultures, opening doors and equipping those he is calling. God’s sovereignty, power and might give us confidence to pray prayers that go beyond our understanding of the means to achieve them, or the cost to individuals and churches to see him fulfil them. Our prayers are to see God raise up people ready to cross-cultures and share the good news. So, let us pray through some of Scripture together to help us broaden our prayers, and move from our day-to-day concerns, to praying for God to reach our communities, churches and every nation.

Pray for our teams in North Africa who will do regular โ€œfishing pushesโ€ – prayerfully going out into the local area to see who the Lord leads them to. Two workers met M*ย because she got into the taxi they were in. They spent a whole day with her and also met for a second time later in the week and again shared with her. They are still in touch via WhatsApp and plan to meet again. Pray for M* to read Godโ€™s word for herself and that He would open her eyes to the truths there.

Claire Weddellย is based in Chimoio, Mozambique, working with local churches in discipleship and leadership development. Give thanks for the opportunity to participate in the ‘Send Africa’ Conference for Mobilizers. Please pray for her as she considers how best to implement all that she learned, and for the team of mobilizers as they prepare for future courses and follow-up, especially for the youth.

Pray for the 960,000ย Karimojong of Uganda.ย Half of this population is under the age of 18. They live in northeastern Uganda, bordering South Sudan to the North and Kenya to the East. Pray for an increasing use of the Bible, especially during church services. There is a strong emphasis on worship and praise, but the Bible is not read a lot during the service. Pray for a hunger for Godโ€™s word in the church, and in the lives of individual followers of Jesus.
