Pray for global mission

How should we pray for ourselves and others? Every day our staff, and the pastors and missionaries who join us, hear an opening prayer shaped by Luke 10:2. ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’ We shape our prayers around this verse, to help us remain focused on the task we have been called to. Praying through scripture helps us to be shaped by God’s heart, to have our eyes opened to his work in the world and to be challenged to see how God has placed us to work out his purposes.

We know that when we pray God is not only moving our hearts wherever we are, but he is also directing people’s lives, shaping cultures, opening doors and equipping those he is calling. God’s sovereignty, power and might give us confidence to pray prayers that go beyond our understanding of the means to achieve them, or the cost to individuals and churches to see him fulfil them. Our prayers are to see God raise up people ready to cross-cultures and share the good news. So, let us pray through some of Scripture together to help us broaden our prayers, and move from our day-to-day concerns, to praying for God to reach our communities, churches and every nation.

Prayer from AIM’s Daily Prayer:

The unreached Fulani people live in West Africa.  PrayAfrica.org writes: “This year the rains were abnormally abundant in the Sahel, especially in August and September, which has extended the malaria season.  With the cold setting in, and the dust increasing, colds and other respiratory ailments affect many people. Due to this year’s famine, many people are malnourished and anaemic. When malaria arrives, the consequences are serious. Many people cannot afford medication. Animist beliefs and traditions, as well as the fact that health spending is not a priority, are major obstacles, often with disastrous consequences. During the month of October, the community health worker and I made many trips to the clinics and the hospital in town, to help sick people receive care. All had to be transfused with blood. We also lost a child just as we entered the hospital courtyard. At home too, people come one after the other to look for medicine. Lord, have mercy.”

Margot DeSouza has completed her service as part of a TIMO team serving in Likawage, Tanzania. Pray for good sleep and routines for her and her husband Fernando as they continue enjoying parenthood with their baby boy. Ask God to bless their language learning as they study French in preparation to return to Fernando’s ministry team in Chad, where their French language skills will be important. Ask God to give them perseverance and peace as they enjoy this season of life while preparing to move country again with a small child.

The Gabbra are an unreached people group who live in the Chalbi desert along the border of Kenya and Ethiopia. PrayAfrica writes : “Twelve youth and a Brazilian couple, alongside our Gabbra youth Pastor, went for a four-day outreach in the Hurri Hills gathering the existing Christians to encourage them, then visiting several new villages to sing and share the gospel. Very high energy and great openings. We are expecting them back in Dukana today to share how everything went. Pray for all the gospel seeds they planted to find good soil and produce much fruit!”
