Daily prayers
Kathleen Quellmalz
Kathleen Quellmalz has served in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, for 30 years with Safina Street Network, an outreach working with vulnerable children and young people. Pray for those who have taken up the reins of running Safina from her. Ask that the Lord will lead her clearly as she returns to Tanzania early next year to support Safina in the areas of public relations, fundraising, and mentoring volunteers and foreign staff, as well as seeking to be open to new ideas, as the spiritual care of children and young people is still very close to her heart.
San of Namibia
Pray for the 90,000 San of Namibia who live in the area of the Kalahari desert and are experiencing massive cultural shifts as their traditional way of life is disappearing. Pray they would look to their Creator God and believe in the one whom He has sent to save them. Praise the Lord that a recent survey in Namibia found two alive San churches, with men and women praising the Lord in their beautiful clicking language! Praise the Lord that the gospel is spreading amongst the San. Stories from Botswana relate that the San are gathering to pray. The Lord is majestic in holiness, awesome in glory and working wonders! Pray that many more San would believe Jesus’s words: “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” (John 11:25-26)
Vision
Pray that Christ-centred, reproducing, culturally appropriate churches will be formed among African peoples in dependence on the grace and power of the Lord, in partnership with African churches, and with priority for unreached people groups.
Ruth
Ruth* works on an Indian Ocean Island, seeking to share the gospel with people who have never had it explained to them. About a year ago, a local couple’s baby died just a few hours after being born. The father had shown interest in knowing God and felt the pregnancy had been a real gift from Him as his wife had become pregnant after being prayed for, following many years of infertility. So, it was extra hard that the baby didn’t survive, and the father hasn’t shown as much interest in studying the Bible since. Despite this, Ruth’s regular visits to the wife have developed into a nice friendship and last month the wife gave birth to a baby boy. Give thanks for this wonderful gift and ask that both parents would seek God’s face as they marvel at this miracle. *Name change for security reasons
Timo and Laura
Timo and Laura serve in Finland among the refugee population, sharing Jesus with them and equipping Christian refugees to reach out to the Finns they live amongst and fellow internationals. Christians from various nations have joined their multicultural Gospel-Centred Community of believers, seeking a place to belong. Many are lonely, many feel they don’t really belong in Finnish speaking churches, and Timo and Laura are happy to welcome them, as many need discipling. At the same time, their heart and desire is to focus on non-Christians. They embrace those who are part of their community, and they continue to walk alongside them sharing the love of Christ through actions, care, and through the Word. They are excited that they have Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and atheists that also feel welcome in their community. The conversations are very interesting, but their leadership team is doing well at keeping the conversations guided towards Christ. They still have lots to learn, but it is an exciting journey to be on. Pray for growth and fruit in all this.
David and Patricia Techand
David and Patricia Techand are based in Arusha, Tanzania and are partnering with different churches and Christian organisations to see Christian radio stations set up across Tanzania. Pray for them as they continue to learn Swahili, that the Lord would grant them joy and understanding as they increasingly get to grips with this beautiful language. Pray too that they would be salt and light as they live amongst their neighbours. They have two families with small children living right across from them and their children often play together outside.
Jakob
Pray for Jakob as he explores and prepares for where God is calling him. He is currently learning French as an initial step for communicating in the region and type of work where the Lord seems to be leading. Pray for clarity as he investigates the possibility of joining a team working in a sensitive region where believers are few and the spiritual need for the good news is great.
Morgan Tierney
Morgan Tierney has just completed a year with the Dukana Inbound Team in Northern Kenya. The team have left a local church with a Pastor and elders, but still needing growth. Please pray for long term fruit from their work. Morgan recently got engaged to another member of the team and as they seek the Lord’s will for where he would have them serve, please pray for wisdom, provision and enabling in all the changes ahead.
Samburu of Kenya
Pray for the 240,000 Samburu of Kenya who live in remote North Central Kenya, dispersed between Mt Kenya and Lake Turkana. Pastors and elders of multiple local churches among the Rendille and Samburu continue to meet to read and study God’s Word. In June, five oflocal those men gathered to learn how to study the Bible (hermeneutics) and are moving on to expository preaching through a curriculum called SOMA. Pray for these men as they sharpen each other. Pray for their spiritual growth, the growth of their families, and the growth of healthy churches in Northern Kenya.
