Daily prayers
In partnership with the local church, Sandrine shares the love of Jesus with North African immigrants in Montréal, Canada. Praise God for the baptism of a Taziri on 1st February, who had first heard about Jesus as a child when missionaries came to her village in Algeria and showed the Jesus film. Despite wanting to read the Bible, Taziri had not been able to understand it. She later married a Christian man from her village, and they emigrated to Canada last year, which was where she met Sandrine. She attended church for the first time, and became captivated again by the love of Christ, and after several months accepted Him as her saviour. Please pray for Sandrine, who has the privilege of guiding Taziri in her French learning and reading the book of Mark with her. Ask that the Lord may strengthen the women she disciples in their faith and continue to open doors for her to discuss Jesus with the Muslim women in her small group.
Pray for the 655,000 Acacia people living in Northwest Chad, surrounding Lake Chad. Please pray particularly for A, who is studying the book of John with a teammate, that he may be given the gift of faith. Please also bring O before the Lord, who has been watching the Jesus film with a teammate. Ask the Lord to bring fruit from the seeds that have been planted among the Acacia, that his church may be established.
Claudia serves the local church in Beira, Mozambique, in leadership training. Please pray for the small group of young students she is discipling, which will be expanding from three to five after Easter.’K’, who has been attending the group over the last year, has a lot of biblical knowledge and is a happy participant when she passes on knowledge, but does not want to apply what he knows to his own life or engage with God personally. Ask the Lord to bring about a breakthrough in his life so that he can start a deep relationship with Jesus.
Timo and Laura serve in Finland among the refugee population, sharing Jesus with them and equipping Christian refugees to reach out to fellow internationals and the Finns they live among. They shared a recent encouragement of a Christian man who turned up to their Christmas service out of the blue. He is an asylum seeker and has become part of their Sunday gatherings, and helps with food distribution. He is praying to get asylum, so that his family can also come to Finland, as they are experiencing persecution. Please pray that this may be granted, and that he and his family may find a home in this multicultural community. One of the hardest aspects of the ministry is that they may invest lots of time with someone who seems open to Jesus, and then they suddenly disappear or must leave. Ask the Lord for wisdom and guidance for Timo and Laura to use the time wisely in a context where they don’t know how long they will have with people.
Beth has the joy of reaching out to many with the love of Jesus through language teaching and daily befriending in North Africa. Amy, one of the first friends Beth made almost 9 years ago, has invited her to stay with her family for a while during Ramadan. Please pray for good, meaningful conversations and for the salvation of her family. Beth has also recently been comforting a handful of her students who have wept in her office because they have lost loved ones. Mourning is discouraged because life is believed to be a test, and you must accept whatever God gives you. Pray for those who mourn, that they would know God’s comfort and the promise that He is close to the broken-hearted.
Kay leads a medical team on the Indian Ocean Islands. During Ramadan, there can be extra opportunities for conversation, but it can also be trying with a daily onslaught of fasting questions from almost every passerby on the street. Pray that Kay may have eyes of grace to see these people and conversations as the Lord does, and for her conversations to be seasoned with grace, truth and compassion. Many Islanders will slave so hard to earn favour with God this month, ask that the Holy Spirit may open their eyes to the gift of grace in Christ.
Elle is part of a medical ministry team on the Indian Ocean Islands and has recently had a short-termer, ‘Z’, arrive to join her team for the next 6 months. Please pray for Elle as she seeks to introduce Z to the culture, language and organisation. Ask that Z wouldn’t be overwhelmed, but that Elle would be able to encourage and reassure her. The word for ‘visitor’ there is the same as ‘stranger’ or ‘foreigner’. It is used in different ways depending on the context, but Elle longs for Z to feel at home, to make good friends and not consider herself, or be considered, a stranger for long. Ask the Lord to strengthen those who are far from home for his sake, that they might be rooted in Him and find refuge in the midst of change.
Pray for the 631,000 Zigua who live on the North-East coast of Tanzania. Praise God for the gospel outreach that has been done among them, and that they have the New Testament in their language. Pray that the Zigua would come to know the hope and joy to be found in Jesus and that many would come into a relationship with him. Ask the Lord that in time an indigenous church would be planted, with leaders from the Zigua.
