Daily prayers
Pray for the 650,000 Saharawi of North Africa, who primarily live in Western Sahara, Morocco, Mauritania, Algeria and Spain. Praise the Lord that several Saharawi ladies came to a festival where they heard the gospel presentation, Christian music and two testimonies. Pray that they will ponder what they heard and believe. Keep praying for the Saharawi woman who received a Bible from a worker. May she read it and have her eyes opened to the Truth. Ask the Lord to enable efforts to mobilise the Spanish church so they can join in reaching out to Saharawi and other Muslims in their area.
Jessica Goldschmidt-Habyarimana serves as the administrator for the AIM France office. The summer saw different short-termers come and go through the French-speaking office. In mid-October, they were able to have a time of debriefing. It was good to spend time with them, hear them share about their experiences of service and what they learnt. Sometimes we know things intellectually, but our hearts remain unaffected. Teaching and being involved in the day camp in Mayotte really touched one and made her understand that God truly loves everyone! Please pray that God would help them hold on to what they learnt and that they would continue to be lights for our Lord and obey him, whether he calls them to serve in France or abroad! The AIM French-speaking office is currently undergoing an audit to look at the way the office is functioning, the tasks that need to be done, and who does what. Please pray that the outcome would give a clearer picture of their needs and helpful insights into how to reorganise things.
Simon and Miriam Desborough are serving in Antananarivo, Madagascar, encouraging and equipping the Malagasy church for mission, and reaching out to vulnerable women. They have been confronted with new levels of deceit by those they are seeking to help in these last few months. One woman lied about expecting twins when she was not actually pregnant! Another faked a robbery of her small shop to try and get more help. It’s hard to balance upholding the boundaries, but also showing grace and giving second/third chances. They’re realising that this is actually a false dichotomy: by following through and stopping support when those they are trying to help break the contract, they are helping them to realise their sin and their need for salvation and repentance. The manner in which they deal with these situations is so important, as it is through gracious and clear communication that those they are trying to help understand their responsibility to be honest and to put the effort into changing their lives, with God’s help. Pray for wisdom in dealing with deceit and for real change in the lives of those they are seeking to help.
David and Patricia are based in Arusha, Tanzania and are partnering with different churches and Christian organisations to see Christian radio stations set up across Tanzania. It is now just over ten years since they left for Kenya as a family. Now based in Tanzania, they look back on those 10 years with grateful hearts. Sent out by 2 churches in Switzerland, they work on the ground among the local churches. May God use this radio work for His glory, so that people may hear the good news and find peace with God.
Hannah is the Headteacher at Wellspring School in Chad. Pray for the ongoing impacts of the visa situation, including preparing for student absences, families currently out of the country deciding what to do if things don’t change by January, and for their teacher, Laura, to be able to come and cover for Heidi in January.
Ann works among an unreached people group in northern Chad. Pray for her as she balances the work of team leader, doctor, church member, neighbour, etc. Ask God to give her wisdom in how to use her time. Pray for God to cause the seeds that have been planted to bear fruit for His glory.
Pray for the 16-20 million Somalis of East Africa and in the Diaspora. The Somali people live in East Africa, but many can now be found in the UK, Europe, Canada and the US. One worker reports: What a joy it was to have two children of a Muslim Background Believer (MBB) being dedicated with other children on Sunday. For obvious reasons, the dedication of the two was performed in private. Pray that the children will grow to know and love Jesus as Lord and Saviour. May they mature to serve Jesus all their lives.
Pray that all in AIM would be Christ-centred: compelled by Christ’s love (2 Cor 5:14) to love, pray for, and proclaim the Gospel to Africa’s unreached peoples. Pray that our sufficiency, hope, and ministry would flow from our relationship with Christ. Ask the Lord that we would serve by His grace and strength and submit to His will.
