Islands business team – accountant

Could you use your professional accounting skills to help start and run a tourism business on the Islands? This business will ensure continued access in the country for workers to live and speak for Jesus among the unreached people living there.

Background

Christianity on ‘the Islands’ is often viewed with hostility, and is in some cases outlawed by the Islamic rulers. AIM began work there in 1975 and from then until now, evangelism has been difficult. As such it is carried out today alonogside other occupations, with opportunities to serve ranging from English teaching to nursing and business. A team of professionals and their families are seeking to live and work with integrity in the Islands’ tourism sector, living incarnationally in the community, modelling and proclaiming Christ and blessing the nation by developing tourism with integrity, to see Christ-centred churches planted.

Vision & Strategy

The development of a tourism business on the island will help to ensure access in the country. It is an opportunity to model the body of Christ with a multi-cultural team, and to use the strong business identity to do bold evangelism, with the ultimate aim of realising reproducing indigenous churches in the Islands.

Ministry & Type of Work

Help to start and run a tourism business in order to bless the nation, model Christ-like character, and create strong identity from which to speak truth into the lives of Islanders.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accounting for the tourism business, including accounts payable and receivable,
  • Payroll for local employees
  • Local taxes
  • Some training of employees and those of other local tourism businesses in basic accounting procedures
  • Commitment to personal outreach and evangelism within and without the platform of work

We are looking for someone to join the team for 2+ years.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 2 year degree in accounting essential
  • 2 years as an accountant for a business or NGO desirable
  • CPA or equivalent professional certification desirable
  • You don’t need to be able to speak the languages before you apply, but you must be ready and willing to undertake a significant amount of language learning including French before you arrive, and local language once on the field.

FAQS

AIM’s policy is to appoint both spouses as a couple for service in Africa.

Absolutely! We love to talk to you if you are interested in serving in Africa, to help you access information, match your skills and interest to opportunities and encourage you as you journey into whatever God has for you. We'd love to support you in whatever ways possible so do get in touch!

Yes, you must be a born-again Christian with an active and growing relationship with Jesus Christ and agree with AIM's statement of faith. AIM is an evangelical Christian mission agency. We work in partnership with the African church to reach Africa's unreached peoples with the good news of Jesus Christ, and to develop leaders for the fast-growing church.

Good member care can make the difference between flourishing and merely coping on the mission field, between retiring strong and retiring bitter or disillusioned, between a whole career and a single term. And it can make the difference between another generation following in our footsteps or taking one look at missions and deciding it’s just too costly a path.

Long term ( Over a year )

Our passion is to see Christ-centred churches among all African peoples. Currently there are over 1,000 people groups in Africa or 316 million people, who are waiting to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. Our vision is to engage with these unreached people, partner with churches in Africa to raise up gospel workers and equip African church leaders to strengthen the church. Could you play a part?. Indian Ocean Islands

These beautiful tropical islands are 99.9% Muslim and for security reasons we refer to this area as the ‘Indian Ocean Islands’ rather than naming individual islands. Islam is deeply rooted on these islands and to be an islander is to be a Muslim. There are a small number of believers on each island but many follow Jesus secretly for fear of rejection and persecution.

Support, Logistics & Pastoral Care

Seeing unreached people reached is fruit of the body of Christ in action. That can mean pilots, qualified counsellors, administrators, photographers all helping and supporting the task of making Jesus known. LEARN MORE

Creative Access

Creative Access refers to nations, areas or ministries where there is great hostility towards Christianity and where traditional ‘missionary work’ is not possible. Workers, therefore, need to be ‘creative’ in how they proclaim the good news of Jesus. LEARN MORE
