Healthcare workers in Madagascar

Do you have medical skills that you could use to serve in a mission hospital in rural Madagascar? Use your profession to love and serve peoples’ physical needs, whilst sharing your love for Jesus to meet the spiritual needs of the unreached Tsimihety people.

Background

The Good News Hospital started 25 years ago in one small clinic room in the centre of Mandritsara town. It was part of a vision of the Bible Baptist Churches of Madagascar to reach the people of Mandritsara with the gospel. Over the years, God has provided and grown his work in amazing ways, so the hospital now consists of outpatients (2000 patients/month), inpatients (57 beds – medical, surgical & maternity), an operating theatre (the only one in a 200km radius performing 1400 operations per year), an eye department (including an operating room performing 450 cataract operations per year), a laboratory, an Xray department, a pharmacy and a nursing & midwifery school.

Vision & Strategy

The principal aims of the Good News Hospital project are evangelism and church planting in Mandritsara and the regions beyond (to reach the currently unreached Tsimihety people group). Patients come from a wide geographical area for quality care at the hospital in Mandritsara – this provides many opportunities for outreach and links with Christians in rural areas and village churches; ongoing support is provided through the local church network, the village church leadership training and community health work – this is all integrated to the hospital work at every level. The AIM Madagascar Unit Vision is ‘Madagascar Transformed’ and we are working towards this through focusing on church planting, church development’, pastoral training and strategic partnerships.

Ministry & Type of Work

There are regularly a number of vacant medical and surgical positions. We’re looking for people to fill roles such as those listed below, to maintain standards of excellent, appropriate care for patients, often in a supervisory capacity.

– General Doctor
– Surgeon
– Obstetrician

As a long term worker with AIM, you will have a heart for seeing lost people reached with the transforming power of the Gospel, and seeing Christ-centred churches planted. Alongside the medical work, there are many opportunities to be involved in teaching and discipleship within churches in Mandritsara itself, in village churches in the Mandritsara district and also the possibility to teach during the twice yearly village church leaders training.

Qualifications & Experience

Post-graduate qualifications relevant to the medical role
Previous work as a family practitioner/general physician
/ obstetrician/surgeon
Decent level of French language proficiency

FAQS

Where you will serve and what your ministry will be are often two of the biggest issues that people think about. We will work with you and your church to ascertain the direction the Lord is leading. At the same time, you need to carefully consider AIM as an organisation and whether you and your church would be happy to partner with us.

AIM’s policy is to appoint both spouses as a couple for service in Africa.

Yes, you must be a born-again Christian with an active and growing relationship with Jesus Christ and agree with AIM's statement of faith. AIM is an evangelical Christian mission agency. We work in partnership with the African church to reach Africa's unreached peoples with the good news of Jesus Christ, and to develop leaders for the fast-growing church.
