You understand that what is broken is often goes much further than just our physical bodies, and you know that the answer to this can be found in Jesus. You are good at explaining things in a way that is easy for people to understand, and you enjoy investing in academic education. But also, you love investing in spiritual education and journey too. Children on the mission field face a lot of transition, and you have the skills to walk alongside them as they process, adapt, and learn what it means to live in a culture that is new to them, or say goodbye to people and places that are important to them. You realise that a role in teaching and educating missionary children plays an important support role that allows parents, and often entire teams to be more effective in ministry. Or, in areas where traditional mission work is not allowed, you have the skills to teach English as a foreign language, and the ability to build the kind of relationships which will allow you to have deep spiritual conversations with people.

Maybe you think that your gifts and skills don’t fit the traditional idea of what a missionary looks like. But so many people are needed to allow missionaries to stay on the field – these chains of support are incredibly important. And in areas where traditional missionary work is not allowed, starting a business can give you many opportunities. The skills that you currently use in your 9-5 job will enable you to work in an office, offer quality pastoral care, run a tourist business or a coffee shop, do accountancy work, or any other number of things. And while you do this essential work, you will find opportunities to share the gospel with those that you live life with day by day.

You enjoy working alongside others, sharing and inspiring people to catch hold of the broad vision the Bible paints of God’s mission, that believers are to go and make disciples of all nations. You are naturally relational, supportive and encouraging. You see everyone’s potential. You want to come alongside the growing and vibrant African church, understanding their individual cultural context, to find ways to listen and work together to identify and break down barriers, to facilitate the local church to be even more fruitful in reaching unreached people groups, in ways that are culturally appropriate.

You love reading and teaching from the Bible, and getting stuck in to deep, theological questions. You probably often find yourself turning to Google and your selection of commentaries to help you when you get stuck exploring a tricky issue. But you are aware that there are areas in Africa where pastors may not have access to the internet or to theological books in their language, and you have the skills to teach seminars, training sessions, and Bible studies, to help Church leaders and congregations to understand the Bible and deepen their knowledge of it, and to equip them to teach it themselves.

You have a heart to tell people who have not heard about the gospel in Africa. You want to be able to learn and study methods of outreach, and then have the chance to put what you learn into practice as you live a simple lifestyle among your host people group. You want to be committed and accountable to a diverse team, sharing life and a vision to share Christ together, as you learn about your new culture and language and live out the gospel in a way that demonstrates Christ’s love to those around you.

You have a passion to see Christ-centred, African-led, reproducing churches; communities worshipping together in their own language, committed to each other and seeking to share the gospel of Jesus with those who have not heard – both near and far. Not only do you want to share the gospel with individuals and see them come to Christ, you also want to see them discipled, in fellowship and community, demonstrating the love of Christ to others through their love for each other. You believe that this is the most effective means of reaching the unreached in Africa.

Your flexibility, willingness to learn, and ability step out of your comfort zone mean that you find new and challenging opportunities exciting. You have a heart for Muslim peoples who have never heard the name of Jesus. Living in an area where mission work is not allowed and doing the job you are trained to do, you can build up deep relationships, love people, and be intentional in sharing the gospel of Jesus with them as you go about your day to day life. For the locals, believing and following Jesus is a risky choice, and you can walk alongside them in making that difficult, and often costly, decision.

You see people from all over Africa coming to Europe and to the UK for many different reasons, war, economic, political, religious, educational or family. For many, coming from areas where they may have not ever heard about Jesus before or had the freedom to explore who he is, you recognise the opportunity there is to build strong, genuine relationships, to demonstrate the love of Christ to them, and share the gospel with them.
You may not feel called to, or be in a position at the moment to be able to, move to Africa, but you feel called to share the gospel with Africans, either where you live or in other areas of Europe. You could be involved in reaching the unreached on your doorstep, even alongside your day job, working with and alongside the local church. You can demonstrate the love of Christ in practical ways through language help, homework clubs, or building friendships, as well as in sharing the gospel in an intentional way.

You are flexible, and don’t mind where you end up using your skills. Though you don’t have a specific place in mind, you do have a clear vision of playing your part in God’s call to the nations. You want to go where the need is greatest, to somewhere where people might otherwise have no opportunity to hear about Jesus.

You may have a few responsibilities and ties in your current life stage, but other than that, it feels like a good time to follow God’s call to overseas mission. But, you are sure to have many questions. Will we be able to serve in a location that will use both of our skills? What if we both want different things out of an assignment? Where will we live? What will it cost? What kind of support will there be? Will there be any training and support to help us live in a new, unfamiliar culture? What if we plan to have a family? We would be happy to talk you through any questions or concerns that you have.

You sense God’s call to mission, but as a parent maybe you have some questions about the practicalities and whether this is the best decision for all members of your family. Is this the right time to go? How will my children cope with moving and living in a new culture? What options are there for their education? We can help you to talk and think through all of these questions, recognising that the decision to follow God’s call to the mission field is one that will affect each member of your family.

You are no longer in full time work, so maybe you have the luxury of extra spare time. As well as time, you also have a wealth of experience and knowledge that you can pass on to others and use as a part of God’s call to the nations. But maybe you have some questions. What kind of role is there for me? Will I be useful? What kind of local support will there be? How remote is the location I am in likely to be? Will it be easy to have visits home? What happens if there is a medical emergency? Will it be easy to get insurance? We would be happy to talk you through any questions or concerns that you have.
