Frank and Josie

After eighteen years in Africa, Frank and Josie (names changed) are now back in the UK serving with Borderless.ย  Frank is mentoring young men in a local High School and Josie is helping out at an English conversation class and a befriending programme.

They began serving with AIM in 2002, when they worked for two years as volunteer coordinators for the Eastern Region office in Kenya. On their return to the UK they both went into teaching, and in 2009 went to Namibia to serve on an AIM team working with the Ministry of Education and the local church on the Kaisosi Evangelical Bible Church Orphans and Vulnerable Children Project, seeking to serve orphans and vulnerable children. In summer 2010 they returned to working in the Eastern Region office as Short Term Coordinators, and in 2012 joined a team seeking to reach the unreached on one of the islands in the Indian Ocean. In December 2013, Frank and Josie returned to serve in Kenya again, seeking to serve missionaries through educating and discipling their children.ย ย

Back in the UK for medical reasons, we are excited about the doors that seem to be opening with ‘New Scots’ and the skills God has given us to serve in these areas.

Latest Prayer News

Pray for Cath as she seeks to place short term volunteers within appropriate settings for their gifts and needs. One recently returned short termer reported that, โ€œIt was wonderful to be able to share the gospel with some of the vulnerable women, and especially to do so in Malagasy.โ€ Another highlight was sharing with Malagasy churches, and seeing people realise that they could be involved in mission, that they too are called to mission. This short termer hopes to serve long-term so please pray the Lord will open the doors for that to happen.

Pray for the 30-40,000ย Lokwa of South Sudan. They are farmers and pastoralists, living in the fertile area of South Sudan near the Uganda border. They find valour in cattle raids and warfare, but many have been displaced due to the conflict and are living in refugee camps.ย Kennedy is a young, enthusiastic, committed follower of Jesus, trying to make Jesus known among the Lokwa. He has reached many villages by bicycle, preaching the gospel and showing the Jesus Film. Please pray for strength and resilience, for fruit from his labours, and that the Lord would raise up co-labourers for this vast work to bring the gospel to the Lokwa.

Pray that we at AIM would be effectively serving and equipping the church of Jesus Christ to make disciples of the peoples of Africa: partnering with churches, reaching Africaโ€™s unreached.

Ben and Christelle Simoninย serve in Mayotte, making disciples among the unreached people living there. When they returned to Mayotte after hurricane Chido, they were keen to make psychological care accessible to the inhabitants of Mayotte as they had found a very tired and resigned population. They were able to organize an entire week around mental health, which they called: “CHIDO, let’s talk about it?” They were helped by Jay Doza, a Christian trauma specialist. She spoke at several events, led conferences on trauma, a discussion group around a brunch, and a film debate on anxiety. Within the church, she spoke at a youth camp, as well as at a post-Chido discussion group. Pray for fruit from all this.

Kathleen Quellmalzย serves in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania with Safina Street Network; an outreach working with vulnerable children and young people. At a recent Camp, Pastor John Kabuga, who had a similar past to many of the young people before he found faith in Christ, encouraged the young people greatly through his Bible studies, personal testimony and songs. Many were delivered from occult bondage and filled with the Holy Spirit. Tears were shed as sins were confessed and needs were brought to Jesus. The presence of God was palpable among them. They also had great fun playing games and taking part in the traditional football match between the SAFINA team and the villagers of Konga, where the school is located.
