Fulani of West Africa
The 20 million Fulani of West Africa are a culturally diverse and widely dispersed group,
The Fulani in Western Niger are sometimes called โGorgaabeโ, meaning โPeople of the Westโ. The majority of them have settled in and around towns and cities in the Departments of Niamey and Dosso, some have become farmers, although owning cattle is still a key part of their ethnic identity. Fulani culture places a high value on self-control and on a certain stoicism which does not allow any demonstration of weakness. When one Fulani wants to express friendship towards another, he will lend him a cow. The person receiving the cow takes care of it until it has a calf, and then he returns it to the owner.ย

A lot of church leaders in Africa havenโt had the opportunity to learn how to teach the Bible. In this magazine weโll find out why it is so important and what AIM is doing to help.

The need for theological education is great. But with limits on time, finances and opportunities, how can this be addressed?…

While we celebrate what the Lord has done through AIM (and many others!) the work remains unfinished in North and West Africa.

As part of AIMโs call to reach the unreached across Africa, we are partnering with Serving in Mission (SIM) to send a joint team to the Fulani peoples of Niger.
