Frank and Josie

After eighteen years in Africa, Frank and Josie (names changed) are now back in the UK serving with Borderless.ย  Frank is mentoring young men in a local High School and Josie is helping out at an English conversation class and a befriending programme.

They began serving with AIM in 2002, when they worked for two years as volunteer coordinators for the Eastern Region office in Kenya. On their return to the UK they both went into teaching, and in 2009 went to Namibia to serve on an AIM team working with the Ministry of Education and the local church on the Kaisosi Evangelical Bible Church Orphans and Vulnerable Children Project, seeking to serve orphans and vulnerable children. In summer 2010 they returned to working in the Eastern Region office as Short Term Coordinators, and in 2012 joined a team seeking to reach the unreached on one of the islands in the Indian Ocean. In December 2013, Frank and Josie returned to serve in Kenya again, seeking to serve missionaries through educating and discipling their children.ย ย

Back in the UK for medical reasons, we are excited about the doors that seem to be opening with ‘New Scots’ and the skills God has given us to serve in these areas.

Latest Prayer News

Who are we? The Bible records the Lord at work in Africa throughout its pages, with Jesus seeking refuge in Egypt as a child and the eunuch taking the gospel news back to Ethiopia. As AIM serves as an evangelical Christian mission agency in over 20 African nations and around the world, join with us in praying for the Lord to continue His work so that Christ-centred churches are established and thriving among all of Africa’s peoples.

In a creative access location,ย Beth* has the joy of reaching out to many with the love of Jesus through language teaching and daily befriending. A recent family bereavement has given cause for reflection on the difference that being a follower of Jesus makes to grieving. In her region of North Africa, typical prayers which are said when someone dies are completely empty of hope. In fact, grieving is not encouraged because life is seen as a test and everything, no matter how awful, must be responded to with โ€˜praise godโ€™. Pray for Beth* to be able to convey that although death and grief are awful, knowing that Jesus promises to be with us in the darkest valley brings such comfort and hope. Continue to ask that Jesus would open the eyes of the blind, unstop the ears of the deaf, and that the people of this land might know deep love, deep peace, deep rest and deep joy because they know Him.

Pray for logistics to come together for the many different guests attending the Chad Unit annual conference in June: childcare team from the US, keynote speaker and wife from Kenya, Central Region office staff, and several International Office members. Pray for the Holy Spirit to be guiding Pastor Chris Mwalwa as he shares from God’s word.

Simon and Miriam Desboroughย are serving in Antananarivo, Madagascar, encouraging and equipping the Malagasy church for mission and reaching out to vulnerable women. They want to ensure their mobilisation efforts are founded upon much prayer and reflection. As they have now formed a mobilisation committee, they are beginning toย advertise new roles. Simon presented on the work of AIM to the Firahalahian’ny Mpitandrinaย Evanjelika (Brotherhood of Evangelical Pastors) and many were excited to receive training and partner in various initiatives. They are due to provide some missions training to a church in July, and take part in a youth camp teaching on mission in September. Itโ€™s been a flurry of new opportunities since returning, but they are thankful to God for ensuring they are not overwhelmed and that they have time to cover these events in prayer.

Hannah works at Wellspring School in Chad. Pray for the final month of school โ€“ that teaching staff will have perseverance to finish the year well despite the heat, and wisdom as they prepare report cards. Pray for students leaving at various times throughout the month and for the practicalities of finishing up assignments remotely. Praise God for the recent review of their Vision, Mission, Objectives, Goals and Core Values. Pray that they will be committed to working towards these goals, and that the Lord will continue to guide them in this ministry for His glory and their good.
