Diaspora outreach worker in Malta

Could you join a team working alongside the local church to reach out to African migrants?

Background

Malta has a population of half a million people and is strategically placed in the Mediterranean Sea astride the shipping lanes between Europe, Africa and Asia. With the increasing presuure of economic migrants and refugees coming from Africa to Europe, Malta has unique challenges and opportunities. There is freedom of religion in Malta which is predominantly Catholic.

Vision and Strategy

We desire to partner with local ministries to see unreached Africans and other unreached people groups become disciples of Jesus and the to gather together with others in small reproducing discovery groups and house churches. We believe our work will be accomplished when there are reproducing disciples gathering among all the African unreached people groups in the region. We recognize we can’t isolate Africans from the multi-cultural metropolitan areas in Europe and so understand that our efforts will reach beyond Africans.

Ministry and type of work

We work alongside the Evangelical Baptist Church, Malta, reaching out to migrants from Africa. We value holistic approach to ministry that demonstrates the compassion of Christ, serving the practical needs of the underserved while also effectively making new disciples of family units who in turn are winning their extended families and neighbourhoods. We desire to help local ministries expand their reach and effectiveness by mobilizing and placing both long term workers and short-term teams. We will work with local, believing Africans of the diaspora to mobilize them to mission.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Required: proven outreach experience
  • Required: BA degree
  • Required: Outgoing personality, ready to share the gospel freely. Ready to sow seed widely and then pour into individuals who show interest, harvesting those who God calls and discipling them to reach out to others.

FAQS

In most cases, short term and long term missionaries receive both a European Based Orientation prior to departure as well as a country-specific orientation immediately upon arrival in the country of service.

Our approach to mission though is all about learning. We seek to learn about local culture and language to be effective in sharing the gospel. Different team programmes cover different levels of training through the ministry period, with TIMO (Training in Ministry Outreach) teams offering the most comprehensive curriculum.

We believe that God will provide for those he is leading into cross-cultural mission with AIM. The first step is to be praying, and to share your needs with your church and supporters, so that they can be praying with you that your needs would be met. Once your assignment is agreed and confirmed, a detailed budget is prepared for you which outlines the overall amount needed to be raised or pledged for your first term (2-3 years depending on location). You will need to have 100% of this amount pledged before you can travel.

The budget is shared with your sending church and we will work with you and your church to help you think about this further. Our European Based Orientation programme provides some training on partnership development, and we will provide other resources for you to share with potential supporters too, such as a prayer card, a page on our website with an online giving form and a standing order form (if needed).

Listen to a pastor talking about offering support:

Luke Herrin

In Acts 18:10, the Lord told Paul that he should keep speaking clearly because he had many people in Corinth. The Lord has many people in your city. We just need to find them. And the best way to do that is just to talk to them.

Currently there are over 1,000 people groups in Africa or 316 million people, who are waiting to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. Our vision is to engage with these unreached people, partner with churches in Africa to raise up gospel workers and equip African church leaders to strengthen the church. Could you play a part?. Taking the good news of Jesus to Africa’s hardest to reach people does not always mean a move to Africa. Today, millions of Africans live outside of Africa: in North America, Europe, and around the globe – the African diaspora. LEARN MORE
