Short Term – Medical Elective
Working in the Church of Uganda Health Centre III and Kotido Health Centre IV (including being on-call with a clinician) gaining experience of medicine in a rural Ugandan setting.
Building relationships with local Christians, the health care workers and the patients, learning about their lives and their culture which will include learning some basic local language. There are many opportunities to share the gospel with patients within the health centres. Praying with patients is encouraged. Students will be encouraged to join the church team on their visits to the rural villages surrounding Kotido.
80% of Uganda is engaged in agriculture. The healthy economy of the 1960s was crippled in 1972 by the expulsion of the Asian business community, and then virtually destroyed by tyranny and wars. It has steadily improved since 1992. Under previous government regimes there were restrictions on persecuted Christians, but there is now freedom of religion.
Training & Qualifications:
Must be in year 4 or 5 at Medical School
Show a willingness to learn, and have a strong desire to make Jesus’ name known among unreached people
