Building blocks in Korr

The Rendille people are on the cusp of being taken off the list of unreached people groups. They are a nomadic people who live in a harsh and demanding area of northern Kenya. However, the church in Korr is growing in size and strength and is spreading out from Korr into the desert of northern Kenya. We are looking for someone to come alongside the church with discipleship and building skills to enable that people movement among the Rendille.

Location: Korr, Kenya

Kenya gained independence from Britain in 1963. Since then British tourism has been a key element of Kenya’s economy, however, unemployment, poverty and crime remain high. Whilst the majority religion is Christianity, Kenya’s ethnic diversity and vast countryside means there are still many unreached with the gospel.

What’s the vision?

The Rendille church still has needs which it cannot fulfil on its own. Among those is a need for a skilled engineer or builder. The Korr church is sending evangelists out among the villages and herds of the Rendille people. They are beginning to see the need to build churches for worship in the small communities scattered around the desert, yet they lack the training to design and build good, climate-sensitive buildings. In addition to this evangelism, one of the most effective outreach tools the Korr church uses is the Tirrim group of schools. This group of schools trains young people from an early age both in national education and in the truth of Christ. This gives the church the opportunity to pour the truth and love of Christ into generations of Rendille and other local young people. The school is expanding and the church needs the expertise necessary to keep the facilities up to the demands, so they are asking for help.

Who do we need?

We are looking for an experienced engineer or builder to come alongside the church and assist them with new church buildings, new school building and maintaining some of the current structures. This individual would disciple and train Rendille workers, but would also be expected to find ways to give a clear presentation of the gospel that Christ died for our sins and that he is the only one that can bring us into reconciliation with God to the Rendille workers, to local shop owners and businessmen in the town. The goal of this assignment would be to become a part of the Korr community and teach the church how to effectively share the gospel while practically using God-given skills. Through this effort the church would benefit from this person’s expertise, but the community would also benefit from on-site training of Rendille builders.

Start Date:

As soon as possible – early 2018.

Length of Term:

We are looking for someone to dedicate at least two years into serving in this capacity with options to continue working with the Rendille or seeking ministry opportunities in other areas of AIM ministry.
