Kotido ambulance repairs

All roads in Kotido, Karimoja (Uganda), are dirt roads and most people live in rural manyattas (villages) serviced only very poor tracks. When a labouring mother or unconscious patient needs an ambulance, currently the only way to travel is bicycle or motorcycle.

Paul and Helen are living in Kotido, and are involved with healthcare work there. The Church of Uganda North Karamoja Diocese Ambulance and Outreach vehicle, a 4×4 Toyota Landcruiser with many years of life left in it, has been out of action for the last year as the church health centre where Helen works has been unable to afford to fix it. They are currently looking to raise $3,500 in order to carry out the repairs.

Once repaired, the vehicle will be used to visit patients in rural villages suffering from HIV, TB or other diseases needing follow up, and to conduct outreach testing for HIV/Hep B/TB. It will also be used as an ambulance to pick up or transfer sick patients or labouring mothers.

As this is a church health centre, the plan is that passionate Christians from town will join the outreaches, giving opportunities to share the gospel whilst ministering in deed. It is also hoped that forming relationships with these outreaches may also open doors for for Bible storying, evangelism or church planting.

Please be praying for the repairs of this vehicle, and for the opportunities for gospel and health outreach that it will provide. The vehicle is in need of a new gear box, a full service including new brake pads, new battery, and new bearings, 5 new tyres and new shock absorbers.  If you would like to contribute to this project, please ensure any donations are referenced ‘Ambulance Repairs Project’.
