There are a number of people groups that\u00a0stretch across country borders in West Africa.\u00a0One of the most familiar groups for Western\u00a0readers may be the Moors or Bidhan, known\u00a0for their expansion into Spain. Another large\u00a0group in the region are the Mand, who\u00a0have many sub-groups, but who are united\u00a0through their strong Islamic beliefs.<\/p>\n
Across Francophone West Africa there are\u00a0handfuls of local believers, estimated to be\u00a0between 50-150 in number per country.\u00a0Whilst there are African and Western\u00a0missionaries in the area, entire communities\u00a0in the interior still have no viable Christian\u00a0witness. The spiritual climate of the area\u00a0is strongly Islamic, with the Joshua project\u00a0suggesting that 99.5% follow Islam.\u00a0However, due to poor infrastructure and low\u00a0educational levels, young people are growing\u00a0increasingly disgruntled with life and the lack\u00a0of governmental action.This has led large\u00a0numbers of young people to turn to atheism.<\/p>\n
In 2021, AIM sent an initial team to this area\u00a0to explore opportunities, with the result that\u00a0we are now looking to initiate ministry in\u00a0West Africa. In many places in Francophone\u00a0West Africa, traditional mission work is not\u00a0welcomed by the authorities. However, the\u00a0economic situation means that there are\u00a0numerous business and social opportunities\u00a0for Christian workers to get involved in which\u00a0have been welcomed by the state. We are\u00a0looking to partner with churches in the UK\u00a0and Europe to raise up a team of workers to\u00a0go and start ministry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
