Bara team update

Hannah Coggins, on behalf of the Betroka team gives an update on what they’ve been up to.

In February, the Bara Curriculum-Based Team (CBT) arrived in Madagascar. Betroka, our home, is at the heart of the Bara area, but ‘home’ to just 10,000 of the 600,000 Bara people. They live in small groups, often with only relatives; there’s no such thing as a Bara town. Betroka is where they meet and trade, providing a good team base. It’s within (very long) walking distance of many villages and we can support and encourage local Christians in outreach. We pray that our ministry will set an example of Christ-like love to marginalised people.

Currently our primary ministry is language learning, but immersion in the Bara language is difficult. The Bara keep to themselves, which makes relationship building tough. Team leaders, Marc and Stacy Niles, are in the USA for medical treatment for their third child, Elliot, but God’s sovereignty prevails. He’s provided substitute leaders, wonderful Bara language helpers and numerous opportunities to adjust to Malagasy life.

‘God has given us this ministry in His mercy, so we will not lose heart’ (2 Corinthians 4:1). Please pray for us as we seek to stand firm through the trials, holding on to the joy we have in Jesus.
